Lavrov says Moscow will honor economic agreements with Iran despite difficult conditions, citing rising trade and continued energy and infrastructure cooperation
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow would honor its economic agreements with Iran despite the challenging situation, speaking during a visit to Tehran after talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. At a joint news conference, Lavrov said bilateral cooperation was developing dynamically.
He pointed to a strategic partnership treaty and a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union as supports for cooperation, alongside a notable rise in trade volume.
Lavrov also cited ongoing nuclear energy cooperation, including the gradual return of Russian specialists to the Bushehr power plant, and infrastructure work such as the Rasht-Astara railway. The two diplomats discussed regional security, tensions in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, and Russia’s proposal for collective regional security.
