Self-proclaimed Kenyan pastor Paul Mackenzie and 28 others were found guilty of murdering 191 people on Monday, most of them children, in a case involving a starvation cult. Mackenzie appeared impassive in a Mombasa courtroom as the verdicts were delivered.

Hundreds of bodies have been discovered since 2023 at the cult’s base inland from the Kenyan beach resort of Malindi. The events became known as the “Shakahola Forest Massacre.”

Mackenzie was alleged to have incited his acolytes to starve to death to “meet Jesus.”
