Lavrov and Pezeshkian discuss accelerating Russia-Iran agreements, with the Iranian president saying his planned Moscow visit could advance energy and infrastructure projects
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Monday, focusing on bilateral cooperation and regional developments. Pezeshkian called for faster implementation of existing agreements, naming energy, transport and trade as priorities. He said his upcoming visit to Moscow could help move the agreements forward and produce tangible results, particularly in infrastructure and energy.
Pezeshkian criticized what he called the US-Israeli war on Iran, saying attacks on infrastructure and the killing of senior officials, scientists and schoolchildren violated international norms. He thanked Russia for its support and called for a regional security framework based on mutual respect and dialogue, arguing that US military bases in the region increase instability.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov also met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's readiness to help resolve the situation surrounding Iran and briefed Iranian officials on his discussions in Bahrain with representatives of Arabian Peninsula countries.
The two sides emphasized close coordination on developments in the Middle East, the Gulf, the South Caucasus and the Caspian Sea. The ministry said political, economic and investment ties, as well as joint transport and energy projects, would continue to expand through governmental and business channels.
