Trump calls for New Mexico to be renamed ‘New America,’ saying the change would raise incomes and home values
EASTORA REPORT | U.S. President Donald Trump called Monday for New Mexico to “immediately” change its name to “New America,” reviving a proposal he first floated publicly in September.
“We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He said the new name would add “great value and prestige” to the state and predicted that home values and incomes would rise.
Trump also repeated allegations about elections in New Mexico, writing that “maybe even the Crooked Elections, that New Mexico is known for, would become honest again.” He provided no evidence in the post to support the allegation.
The president cannot unilaterally rename a U.S. state. Such a change would require action beyond presidential authority, including approval at the state and congressional levels.
Trump previously promoted the name “New America” in September, when he shared an image of New Mexico with “Mexico” crossed out and replaced by “America.”
