Türkiye, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia set to sign defence-industry pact aimed at strengthening cooperation among the four countries
Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler is expected to travel to Doha on Tuesday afternoon for the signing of a four-way defence-industry cooperation memorandum on Wednesday, according to Anadolu Agency sources. The agreement is intended to strengthen defence-industry ties among Türkiye, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia.
Separately, Qatari Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced at the Global Security Forum in Doha that Qatar would soon unveil plans for a domestic defence production hub. He said Qatar is working with regional and international partners, including the United States, the United Kingdom and France, to develop local defence capabilities.
Al Thani also said Qatar would soon announce a new partnership to strengthen defences against ballistic missiles, drones and cyberattacks.
The announcements come amid the US-Israeli war on Iran, which the post says has affected Qatar’s energy sector and maritime trade. After hostilities began, Qatar shut down much of its primary liquefied natural gas complex at Ras Laffan, while shipping restrictions through the Strait of Hormuz disrupted global trade.
Türkiye and Qatar have steadily deepened their strategic partnership in recent years through joint military commands and expanded cooperation in security, trade and investment.
