Hossein Mohebi, a spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said Wednesday that Iran was preparing to unveil a new weapon described as the “father of all bombs.” His remarks were carried by Iran’s Young Journalists Club news agency; he provided no further details about the weapon. The announcement came days after US President Donald Trump hinted on Friday at the possible use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb against Iranian nuclear facilities.

The GBU-43/B, also known as the “mother of all bombs,” weighs around 9,800 kilograms and is one of the largest non-nuclear conventional bombs in the US arsenal. It was first used in April 2017, during Trump’s first presidential term, against a Daesh tunnel complex in Afghanistan.

Mohebi also said Iran’s missile stockpile had increased by 1.5 times following the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June 2025, without giving specific figures. He added that the missiles’ quality, range, destructive power and target accuracy had improved significantly.

Israel and the United States launched a war against Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to respond with attacks on Israel and US military facilities in Arab countries. Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding in June and began negotiations, which later collapsed over disagreements about freedom of navigation and security in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for energy and goods supplies.
