Trump repeatedly rebukes reporter over 1% whistleblower commission after question about False Claims Act awards of at least 10%
U.S.
At an October 20 press conference in the Oval Office, U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly rebuked a reporter who questioned the commission offered under a new whistleblower program he had just announced. Trump was irritated by the question, which contrasted the program’s 1% commission with awards of at least 10% available under the False Claims Act.
The new program is aimed at identifying fraud, corruption and waste in federal spending. The law can award at least 10% to people whose information helps uncover misuse of taxpayer funds.
