President Donald Trump said at the Oval Office that Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar could go to jail, adding that this was his opinion. The remark comes amid a federal immigration investigation into whether Omar misrepresented her age when obtaining U.S. citizenship.

Earlier this month, federal agents searched Omar’s Washington home and seized her phone, laptops, notebooks and passport. Investigators are examining whether Omar or her late father lied about her age when she gained citizenship in 2000. The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration is seeking to revoke her citizenship and eventually deport her.

Omar has denied the accusations, saying she arrived in the United States at age 12 in 1995 and received citizenship at 17. She condemned the search as politically motivated, describing it as an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.
