Former Italian prime minister and former European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi linked recent youth riots in Paris, Milan and other European cities to young people’s frustration about their future. Speaking to Bloomberg, he said they feel “no one is listening to them.”

Draghi described the situation as “a case of blocked expectations.” For young people, he said, social justice means fairness between generations, which is difficult to maintain without economic growth.

He added that many young people feel they cannot easily find a job. They also see society changing rapidly through technology and “feel unequipped to deal with that,” he said.
