One person was killed and four others injured in a drive-by shooting in the western suburbs of Paris. A 12-year-old girl was among those hurt.
The gunman fired from a vehicle using an automatic or “military-grade” weapon and appeared to shoot relatively at random. Trappes Mayor Ali Rabeh said the shooter seemed intent on “carrying out a massacre.”
A CNN source close to the case described the shooter as a 39-year-old man from a nearby town. French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu confirmed that a male suspect was quickly tracked down, arrested in Coignières and taken into custody.
