A forthcoming book says Dutch intelligence monitored Jared Kushner’s iPhone in 2018 and uncovered Gulf-funded accounts allegedly used for backchannel diplomacy
Dutch intelligence covertly monitored Jared Kushner’s iPhone in 2018 and uncovered secret accounts funded by the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, according to disclosures in investigative journalist Matthew Cole’s forthcoming book, Vanity Fair reported. The book is titled *Princes and Thieves: Jared Kushner and Mohamed bin Zayed’s Secret Plot to Remake the Middle East*.
The disclosures say the financial channels were set up to fund backchannel diplomacy, advance regional normalization with Israel and bypass official foreign-policy channels while Kushner was a senior White House adviser.
They describe financial networks that allegedly used Azerbaijani banks to launder and conceal capital transfers totaling billions of dollars from Gulf royals. The disclosures say funds went into accounts identified as First Abu Dhabi Bank and Israel’s Central Bank, under the oversight of regional figures including Emirati and Israeli leaders, giving Kushner off-the-books resources to pursue covert geopolitical objectives.
Those objectives included dismantling regional resistance frameworks, undermining the Iran nuclear deal and forcing capitulation on Palestinian sovereignty, according to the disclosures. They also raise questions about federal ethics disclosures and possible violations of foreign-agent laws, and characterize Washington’s regional alignment with Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi as deeply transactional.
