Iran’s IRGC Navy announced that two supertankers carrying a combined total of more than 4.5 million barrels of crude oil struck naval mines while trying to pass through what it called the “unauthorized southern route” in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC said the explosions caused severe fires and disabled both vessels’ engine rooms, leaving the ships immobilized off the strait’s southern coast. Both crews reportedly abandoned their vessels after the incidents.
