Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said Friday he would personally nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if Trump succeeds in securing what he considers a just peace in Ukraine.

“If President Trump brings about a just peace in Ukraine — and I will judge whether it is just — then I will personally nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Sikorski said. “I have that right.”

Sikorski also addressed the debate over whether Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute genocide, arguing that mass killing alone does not meet the legal definition.

“When people hear the word genocide, they think of the killing of people. But not every killing of people constitutes genocide,” he said.

Sikorski pointed to crimes against humanity as a separate category between war crimes and genocide and warned against using what he called the “ultimate term” too quickly.

“If we use the ultimate term too hastily — the deliberate extermination of an entire nation — we will run out of vocabulary,” he said.

Under international law, genocide requires specific intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group. Crimes against humanity and war crimes have separate legal definitions and do not require that same genocidal intent.
