Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani said Iran would not engage in further diplomacy with Washington until the United States fully honors its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed on 17 June after negotiations hosted by Pakistan.

In remarks on domestic policy and foreign affairs, Zakani emphasized that Iran’s supreme leadership maintains a strict strategy: Washington must carry out signed agreements before any path to future dialogue can open, Al Jazeera reported.

Zakani criticized what he described as Washington’s systemic record of reneging on international guarantees, saying U.S. officials consistently fail to honor financial and diplomatic promises.

The MoU was initially drafted to establish a framework for ending hostile military actions, lifting economic sanctions and securing maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
