Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has called for the immediate release of five Italian women detained by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, describing their detention as unacceptable and saying they had committed no crime.

The Italian Foreign Ministry said the activists were detained on Thursday in al-Bweib, south of Hebron, alongside other international activists. They were accompanying Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest.

Italy’s Embassy in Tel Aviv and Consulate-General in Jerusalem immediately contacted Israeli authorities to seek urgent clarification about the circumstances of the detention and the detainees’ condition. The diplomatic missions remain in contact with the authorities to secure a swift resolution.
