Authorities in Ras al-Khaimah announced on Saturday that all beaches across the emirate would remain closed until further notice. The move followed beach closures in neighboring Umm al-Quwain and Sharjah a day earlier, after an offshore oil leak.
The Public Services Department announced the decision in a statement shared by Ras al-Khaimah Police General Headquarters but did not give a reason for the closures. On Friday, the United Arab Emirates said efforts were underway to contain an oil leak from a tanker offshore, while the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment conducted an environmental assessment.
