Saudi-backed coalition warplanes carried out multiple waves of heavy airstrikes on Mocha, a strategic port city on Yemen’s western coast in Taiz governorate. The bombardment followed movement by Yemen’s Armed Forces in the Red Sea coastal corridor and was described as a major tactical escalation.
Field sources told Al Jazeera that eight separate air raids hit key maritime and coastal infrastructure at dawn and through the morning. Strikes were reported near the historic port, the city’s main ring road and the old city coastline, sending dense plumes of smoke over the harbor area.
