U.S. CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper observed the Strait of Hormuz during a flight aboard a U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook and met with U.S. soldiers who took part in CENTCOM’s earlier mine-clearance mission.

In a statement, Cooper said the Strait’s primary transit routes have no sea mines. He said U.S. forces continue working with the Gulf Cooperation Council and shipping companies to ensure vessels can keep transiting the waterway.

The press release came amid increased Iranian strikes against shipping in both the Strait of Hormuz and the broader Persian Gulf.
