Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency says Tehran warned German-linked regional facilities could become targets if Berlin joins war
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported Sunday that Tehran had warned Germany that German-linked military bases and facilities across the region could become “legitimate defensive targets” if Berlin openly joined military action against Iran.
According to Fars, the warning followed what the agency described as increasing “anti-Iranian” actions by Germany. The report did not identify the Iranian authority that delivered the message, specify which German facilities it referred to or say through what channel the warning was communicated.
Fars also reported that Tehran had warned Berlin through various channels to stop what Iran described as harassment of Iranians living in Germany based on “unfounded allegations.” No further details were provided.
Germany has publicly said it is not a party to the war against Iran and that German forces will not participate while hostilities continue. Chancellor Friedrich Merz has nevertheless said Berlin shares the goal of preventing Iran from posing a nuclear and regional security threat and has discussed a possible German role in securing shipping in the Strait of Hormuz once hostilities end and a legal mandate is in place.
