Trump attacks Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed as ‘jihadist’ after Obama campaign appearance, backs Mike Rogers

President Donald Trump escalated his attacks on Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed early Sunday, calling him a “Muslim Brotherhood Jihadist” and a “Fake Doctor” while urging voters to support Republican Mike Rogers in one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races.

Trump’s Truth Social post came hours after former President Barack Obama campaigned with El-Sayed in Detroit, where Democrats are seeking to win an open Senate seat in the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

Trump accused El-Sayed of hating Jews, Black Americans and the United States and again sought to link him to the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed has repeatedly denied any affiliation with the organization and has publicly disavowed it. No evidence has been produced establishing that he is or has been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Trump also called El-Sayed a “Fake Doctor” and said he runs what is considered “the WORST CLINIC IN AMERICA.” El-Sayed holds a medical degree from Columbia University and a doctorate in public health from Oxford University, but did not complete a medical residency and is not licensed to practice medicine. He has led the Detroit and Wayne County public health departments; available records do not support Trump’s claim that he runs a clinic described as the worst in the country.

The president also attacked Obama, calling him “grossly incompetent” and accusing him of giving Iran billions of dollars and “a road to a Nuclear Weapon,” before mocking Obama’s past campaigning for Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris, both of whom lost presidential elections.

Obama endorsed El-Sayed at a Detroit rally Saturday alongside other Michigan Democrats. El-Sayed is facing Rogers in a competitive contest that could help determine control of the Senate.

Trump ended his post with a direct appeal: “VOTE FOR MIKE ROGERS! He will never let you down!”
