President Donald Trump intensified his attacks on Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed on Sunday as he traveled to campaign for Republican Mike Rogers, again accusing El-Sayed of links to the Muslim Brotherhood and claiming he wants the United States governed by Sharia law.

In a Truth Social post before arriving in Michigan, Trump called El-Sayed a “Jihadist Member of the Muslim Brotherhood” and said he should not be allowed inside the U.S. Capitol. El-Sayed has repeatedly denied having ties to the organization and publicly disavowed it; no evidence has been produced establishing that he is or was a member.

Trump also claimed El-Sayed “wants our Country to go to Sharia Law.” That assertion misrepresents remarks El-Sayed made in a 2022 speech about an Oklahoma ban on Sharia law. In that speech, he did not advocate replacing U.S. law with Islamic law and instead spoke about constitutional rights, religious freedom and equal treatment.

Trump used the post to promote his economic record in Michigan, saying the U.S. auto industry was performing better than ever and crediting himself with protecting Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

Trump did make the 2025 decision to station F-15EX fighter jets at Selfridge as its A-10 mission was being retired, helping preserve a fighter mission at the base. The decision, however, followed years of bipartisan advocacy by Michigan officials, including Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, rather than a Democratic effort to close the installation.

Trump was traveling to Port Huron to campaign for Rogers in the closely watched Nov. 3 Senate election. El-Sayed and Rogers are competing for the seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters.
