One year has passed since violence in El-Fasher reached an unprecedented level when the besieged city fell to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on October 26, 2025. The massacre is described as one of the worst episodes of ethnic-based genocide since the Rwanda genocide three decades ago.

The RSF, a militia sponsored by the United Arab Emirates and waging war against Sudan’s military government, had long faced accusations of ethnic cleansing in Darfur. For years, the group targeted and killed non-Arab inhabitants of the region, the account says.

In El-Fasher, tens of thousands of civilians were systematically gunned down in streets and hospitals and while trying to flee. Many militants filmed themselves committing the killings and later posted the videos online. Satellite imagery showed piles of bodies and enormous blood stains in the desert, visible from space.

Despite what the account describes as overwhelming evidence and brutality unheard of in decades, the massacre was largely under-reported in Western media. The UAE continues to sponsor the RSF, and the account concluded: “May the world never forget.”
