Alaska Senate nominee Mary Peltola and family injured in Anchorage crash, forcing campaign to delay Fairbanks and Bethel events
Alaska Democratic Senate nominee Mary Peltola and members of her family were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Anchorage on Saturday night, prompting her campaign to delay events in Fairbanks and Bethel during the final stretch of her race against Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan.
Peltola’s campaign said another vehicle hit the one carrying her family as they headed to the Alaska Federation of Natives Annual Banquet. Peltola and her family sustained minor injuries and required medical evaluation. They were “in good spirits” and recovering, the campaign said.
The incident comes as Peltola seeks to become the first Democrat in nearly two decades to represent Alaska in the Senate. The race has drawn national attention.
Trump has threatened to sue to block certification if Sullivan loses, citing what he called a “Total Democrat Scam” involving another candidate, Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., on the ranked-choice ballot.
