A Houthi ballistic missile strike on al-Alam camp in Yemen’s Shabwah province on Oct. 19 killed at least 75 people and wounded more than 200, including Saudi troops. Saudi and Yemeni officials briefed on the attack described it as the deadliest single Houthi strike of the new war.

Three missiles hit the camp within a few minutes as Saudi officers began a training session for newly enlisted local forces. Witnesses said four battalions had gathered when the first missile struck; one of the later missiles hit recruits fleeing the initial blast.

Drones had circled the base for days before the attack. Relatives of those killed and wounded blamed the local Yemeni commander for ignoring the warnings.

Officials said the camp had no air-defense or early-warning systems. Shabwah authorities are pressing Riyadh to provide them quickly.
