President Donald Trump said in an interview with FOX 2 Detroit on Sunday that he expected the United States to reach major agreements with both Iran and Canada, while insisting Washington was closely monitoring Iran’s nuclear facilities and would know immediately if activity resumed.

“We will make great deals with both Iran and Canada,” Trump said ahead of his campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan.

On Iran, Trump said the United States had “every nuclear site under watch” and would know “exactly what to do” if movement was detected. He again argued that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon had to take priority even as Americans worried about food and fuel costs.

Asked about those concerns, Trump said: “If they are great Americans, they will do what I’m doing,” before warning of the consequences if Iran acquired a nuclear weapon.

Trump also struck a warmer tone toward Canada, saying he loved the country and “everything about it, other than some of the leaders.” Asked whether he preferred Prime Minister Mark Carney to former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Trump said he got along well with everybody.

He said Canada had hurt U.S. farmers and that the situation would now be “reversed somewhat.” U.S.-Canada trade relations remain strained after months of tariffs and retaliatory measures, with agriculture among the sectors at the center of the dispute.

Trump also discussed the 2028 presidential race. Asked who could succeed him, he said it was too early to name a preferred candidate but cited Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as part of a “great bench.”

He also said Democrats had “some good people that people don’t talk about,” adding that he hoped they would continue not to receive attention.
