Gallup finds a 40-point partisan gap over patriotism, the largest divide in views of which values the nation needs most
U.S.
A new Gallup poll found that 46% of Republicans ranked patriotism among the top three values the nation needs most, compared with 6% of Democrats—a 40-point gap and the largest ideological divide in the survey. The difference exceeds those over equality, fairness, honesty and responsibility.
Democrats most often selected equality (44%), fairness (34%) and honesty (32%). Republicans chose patriotism (46%), responsibility (41%) and honesty. Independents favored honesty, responsibility and integrity; 15% selected patriotism.
The poll also found an age divide: adults 65 and older were nearly three times as likely as adults aged 18 to 39 to say the country needs more patriotism.
