House Republicans deploy 'dozens and dozens' of staffers to monitor midterm elections, documenting irregularities for possible recounts or legal challenges
House Republicans are deploying “dozens and dozens” of congressional staffers to monitor next Tuesday’s midterm elections across the country. The House Administration Committee chairman called it “the most robust program the House has ever done.”
Rep. Bryan Steil said observers will be stationed in close races nationwide, documenting irregularities in real time and sending information directly to the committee. If problems are found, their work could lay the groundwork for recounts or legal challenges. The staffers are federally protected under a 2024 law guaranteeing congressional observer access.
The length of assignments will vary by state. In well-run jurisdictions such as Florida, shifts may end early. In states such as California, where ballots can arrive after polls close, observers could remain on the ground for days.
