Ilhan Omar plans to share a Minneapolis stage with Hasan Piker on Monday, eight days before the midterms, despite pressure from fellow Democrats to cancel
Rep. Ilhan Omar plans to appear with streamer Hasan Piker at a sold-out Minneapolis event Monday night, eight days before the midterms, despite calls from fellow Democrats for her to cancel. Her campaign is defending the appearance, pointing to low early voting among younger voters and describing the Democratic Party as a “Big Tent party.”
Rep. Angie Craig called Piker’s rhetoric “polarizing and dangerous.” Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s gubernatorial campaign described his past statements as “reckless and unacceptable.” A University of Minnesota political science professor warned that the event could “create a split within the DFL” and put candidates in a difficult position with moderate and Jewish voters.
The post cited several of Piker’s past remarks: that “America deserved 9/11”; that he would “vote for Hamas over Israel every single time”; a derogatory description of Orthodox Jews as “inbred”; and a warning that American Jewish support for Israel could lead someone to “take action” against American Jews.
