At the eighth Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit in Moscow, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on major global energy suppliers to condemn and actively counter US actions he said threaten international energy stability. He warned that unilateral US sanctions and military deployments in the Gulf imperil global energy transit, pricing and supply chains.

IRIB reported that Pezeshkian warned damage to energy infrastructure or disruption of maritime trade routes would carry grave economic consequences beyond the region. He urged GECF member states to deepen multilateral cooperation to mitigate market vulnerabilities and shield natural gas trade from Western economic blockades.

Pezeshkian cited Iran’s annual production capacity of roughly 280 billion cubic meters and said Tehran was ready to expand joint investment across the natural gas value chain, advance technical governance and scale up regional gas trade despite ongoing US pressure.

The address came as Washington’s naval containment strategy and regional military escalation continued to squeeze Iranian energy exports. Ahead of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pezeshkian also reiterated that independent trade arrangements—including local-currency settlements and joint infrastructure development—were essential to breaking what he described as Western hegemony over global energy markets.
