Qatar’s emir and Iran’s president discuss Middle East war, blockaded Strait of Hormuz and energy at Moscow gas summit
Qatar’s emir and Iran’s president discussed the Middle East war, the blockaded Strait of Hormuz and energy supplies during a meeting in Moscow, TRT World reported.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 8th summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Russia. The emir’s office said the leaders reviewed regional developments, the latest negotiation updates and energy supplies. Iran’s official Irna news agency said they also discussed expanding political and economic ties and strengthening cooperation among gas-exporting countries.
The meeting comes as Doha continues its mediation efforts between Iran and the United States. Separately, Qatari Foreign Ministry official Ibrahim al-Hashmi said in Doha that the region’s current state of “no war and no peace” was unacceptable and that escalating tensions were draining regional resources.
Hashmi said the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz was an absolute priority for regional and global economies. He added that the international community rejects using the waterway as a pressure card.
