Serbian police withdrew from central Belgrade after President Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat in the parliamentary election to the student-backed Student List.

With nearly 99% of votes counted, preliminary results gave the Student List 52.7% and the alliance led by Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party 39.2%.

The movement emerged from anti-government protests sparked by the deadly collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad in November 2024, which killed 16 people. The demonstrations grew into a broader challenge over allegations of corruption and concerns about democratic freedoms.
