Erdoğan and Trump discuss regional crises as Türkiye offers support for renewed Russia-Ukraine diplomacy
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed bilateral relations and regional and global developments in a phone call Wednesday, with Ankara emphasizing diplomacy in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.
Erdoğan said Türkiye would continue working to strengthen ties with the United States and accelerate cooperation across all fields as the two countries approach the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
He told Trump that Türkiye and its partners in the Mecca Joint Defence Alliance were closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz and Yemen and working toward diplomatic solutions.
Erdoğan also said Türkiye was ready to support efforts to revive negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and end the war through diplomacy.
Trump congratulated Erdoğan and the Turkish people ahead of Türkiye’s Oct. 29 Republic Day and wished Ankara success in hosting the upcoming Organization of Turkic States summit.
