Gulf countries pursue broad US-Iran peace deal with Hormuz reopening within four days of sanctions relief and Houthi pullback
Gulf countries are working on a broad deal intended to prevent a renewed war between the United States and Iran, The Guardian reports. The plan calls for reopening the Strait of Hormuz within four days of sanctions on Iran being lifted, alongside a significant pullback of Houthi fighters deeper into Yemen.
The United States has been informed of progress in the talks but is demanding concessions.
European countries are proposing that UN inspectors be allowed into Iran’s nuclear facilities. Tehran is refusing for now and is focusing only on guarantees that sanctions will be lifted.
