Pakistan launches heavy retaliatory bombardment along Afghan border after shelling kills one civilian and wounds five in South Waziristan
Pakistani security forces launched heavy bombardments along the Afghan border today after cross-border shelling killed one civilian and wounded five others in South Waziristan, Anadolu Agency reported.
Local administrative officials said mortar rounds fired from Afghan territory hit homes and commercial storefronts in the Angoor Adda border sector. The deputy commissioner for Lower South Waziristan wrote on social media that Pakistani military units were “responding effectively and heavily” to what he called an unprovoked escalation.
The border flare-up comes amid what the post describes as deepening security tensions and mutual distrust between Islamabad and the Taliban administration in Kabul. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused neighboring governments of sheltering anti-state armed factions that carry out cross-border raids. Kabul denies the allegations and says security enforcement is an internal matter for Pakistan.
In a separate military statement issued today, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said security forces killed nine militants in two intelligence-based raids in the Kachhi and Wadh districts of Balochistan province.
