U.S. sends Patriot system from Texas to Israel as preparations intensify for possible new Iran strikes
The U.S. military is moving an additional Patriot air-defense system from Texas to Israel as Washington and Jerusalem prepare for the possibility of renewed strikes on Iran after the Nov. 3 U.S. midterm elections, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The deployment is part of a broader military buildup that includes moving personnel away from vulnerable bases, replenishing munitions and preparing bombers, fighter jets and additional naval forces for a possible escalation.
The Journal reported that U.S. officials have warned several Gulf Arab governments to prepare for a potentially short, intense military campaign against Iran after the elections.
President Donald Trump has not made a final decision on whether to order new strikes. The White House declined to discuss what it called sensitive military plans, while saying Trump continues to keep all options on the table.
Associated Press separately reported that U.S. officials had privately urged regional allies to prepare both for possible renewed attacks on Iran and for Iranian retaliation against energy facilities and other critical infrastructure.
The preparations do not mean an attack has been ordered, and diplomatic efforts remain underway as regional governments seek to prevent another major escalation.
