Ukraine says Long Neptune strike destroyed two Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers at Volgograd airfield
Ukraine’s Navy said it destroyed two Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers in a Long Neptune missile strike on the Marinovka military airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region on Thursday.
The aircraft were hit at the base of Russia’s 11th Mixed Aviation Regiment near Oktyabrsky, according to the Navy. President Volodymyr Zelensky also said Ukrainian forces had destroyed two Su-34s in long-range strikes.
The Ukrainian Navy said the Su-34 is one of the main platforms used by Russian tactical aviation to launch guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian cities, frontline areas and Ukrainian military positions.
Ukraine did not initially provide visual evidence confirming the destruction of the two aircraft, and Russia had not publicly confirmed the losses.
The strike follows another Ukrainian Neptune attack on Russia’s Borisoglebsk airfield earlier this month, where Kyiv said several Su-34 aircraft were destroyed or damaged.
