Vance says anyone who divides Americans by skin color is a ‘scumbag’
U.S. Vice President JD Vance condemned efforts to rank or divide Americans by race, saying people should not be treated as more or less American because of their skin color.
“Anybody who would divide us by the color of our skin and say that you’re more or less American, that person is a scumbag,” Vance said.
“I would never talk about my fellow citizens as if there were something wrong with them because they have the wrong skin color,” he added. “It’s disgusting.”
Vance has made opposition to race-based policies a recurring theme of his midterm campaign appearances. At a rally in Kinston, North Carolina, on Wednesday, he said Americans should be treated “as common citizens, not as members of racial groups” and accused the government of dividing people by skin color.
