U.S. Embassy warns of ‘credible’ mass-casualty threat at Moscow’s Tsaritsyno Museum
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow issued an urgent security alert on Saturday warning of what it described as a “credible threat” of a mass-casualty incident at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve in the Russian capital.
“The U.S. Embassy in Moscow is aware of a credible threat of a mass casualty event TODAY October 31, at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in Moscow,” the embassy said in its alert.
The embassy said the U.S. government was coordinating with the appropriate Russian authorities in response to the threat.
U.S. citizens were urged to avoid the museum and surrounding area on Saturday, stay away from crowds, remain alert to their surroundings and monitor local media for updates.
The alert did not identify the nature of the threat, who may be responsible or whether Russian authorities had independently confirmed a specific plot.
The warning comes as the State Department maintains a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory for Russia, citing the war in Ukraine, the risk of wrongful detention, arbitrary enforcement of local laws and the possibility of terrorism.
