Brazilian investigators trace Flávio Bolsonaro’s escape through Argentina as reports point to former Mossad agent and Trump ally
Brazilian investigators have reconstructed how defeated presidential candidate Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro secretly left Brazil for the United States, tracing an operation through Argentina that reportedly involved a former Mossad agent, assistance from Argentine officials and a private jet arranged by Trump ally Jason Miller.
Bolsonaro crossed from Foz do Iguaçu into Puerto Iguazú on Oct. 27 in one of two vans used to transport him, his wife and their two daughters separately, according to an investigation by Brazilian authorities obtained by CNN Brasil.
Investigators identified the vehicles through surveillance footage from the Tancredo Neves International Bridge.
CNN Brasil reported that a naturalized U.S. citizen who previously worked for Israel’s Mossad arrived in Brazil on Oct. 19 and accompanied Bolsonaro from Brasília to Argentina. Investigators said the former intelligence operative was in the same van as Bolsonaro when they crossed the border.
Bolsonaro’s wife and daughters traveled separately in the second vehicle.
From Puerto Iguazú, the family boarded an Argentine-registered Gulfstream G400 operated by charter company Baires Fly. The aircraft stopped in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to refuel before landing at Opa-locka Executive Airport near Miami on Oct. 28.
The New York Times and Wall Street Journal have reported that Jason Miller, a longtime Trump political strategist and current White House special government employee, helped arrange the private aircraft. Miller declined to comment on his reported role.
CNN Brasil said Brazilian investigators believe members of Argentine President Javier Milei’s government assisted the operation. Brazilian government sources told the network that their investigation pointed to assistance from individuals linked to both Argentina and the United States.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, however, said Friday that the U.S. government was not directly involved in arrangements for Bolsonaro to leave Brazil. U.S. officials have separately acknowledged that President Donald Trump authorized Bolsonaro’s entry into the United States.
Investigators concluded that the departure was not improvised at the last moment and had involved significant international planning. The operation was internally referred to as “Operation Alba,” according to CNN Brasil.
Bolsonaro left after Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered him to surrender his passports amid a money-laundering investigation. He has denied wrongdoing.
Brazil’s Federal Police are now considering asking the Supreme Court to freeze Bolsonaro’s assets as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding his departure.
