U.S. military deploys air-defense systems around Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida amid heightened security measures
U.S. military air-defense equipment has been deployed around President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, as security measures around the presidential property are reinforced.
AFP photographs taken Sunday show military equipment positioned near the resort, including an air-defense system mounted on a military vehicle.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command have confirmed that ground-based air-defense capabilities were deployed “in and around” Mar-a-Lago at the request of the U.S. Secret Service.
The military said the systems are intended to support the Secret Service in protecting the president and the surrounding airspace.
Images from the area appear to show an Avenger short-range air-defense system, which can be equipped with Stinger surface-to-air missiles and is designed to defend against low-flying aircraft, helicopters and drones.
Other military equipment has also been positioned in the area, including assets reportedly deployed on a barge in the Lake Worth Lagoon near the property.
The deployment comes amid heightened concern over potential aerial threats, particularly unmanned aircraft, around locations used by the president.
Officials have not publicly identified any specific or imminent threat that prompted the deployment.
Trump frequently stays at Mar-a-Lago, which serves as his primary private residence and has required expanded airspace restrictions and security measures during his presidency.
