Hillary Clinton says a Democratic Congress would leave Trump “cornered” and calls for scrutiny of Elon Musk’s handling of government data
Hillary Clinton said Monday that President Donald Trump could become “even more out of control” if Democrats win both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections, while also calling for greater scrutiny of Elon Musk and the handling of government data.
Appearing on ABC’s “The View” with journalist Kara Swisher, Clinton said a Democratic victory in the House and Senate could make Trump feel increasingly isolated and confrontational.
“If we are successful in winning both the House and the Senate, which I hope we will be, then I think he’s going to get even more out of control,” Clinton said. “I think he’s going to feel cornered. I think he’s going to feel angry. I think he’s going to be lashing out.”
She added that Democratic control of Congress would at least give lawmakers “some leverage to try to hold him to account.”
Clinton also backed investigations into the handling of federal data during Elon Musk’s involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.
Referring to allegations that private actors gained access to sensitive government information, Clinton said Congress should investigate what data had been obtained and how it was used.
“People like Elon Musk, we need a government, and I would argue, starting in January with a new Congress, to begin to hold these people accountable,” she said. “They can’t get away with manipulating the data to try to influence decisions.”
Clinton acknowledged that some of the allegations surrounding access to Social Security data had not been independently established, but argued that Congress should determine what happened and whether safeguards were breached.
Her remarks came one day before the November 3 midterm elections, which will determine control of both the House and Senate.
