Iran’s security chief says U.S. response remains “inadequate,” insisting all seven of Tehran’s conditions must be met

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said the U.S. response to Tehran’s demands remains “inadequate,” insisting Washington must fully meet seven Iranian conditions before diplomacy can move forward.

“We have repeatedly emphasized that the seven conditions announced by Iran must be fulfilled,” Rezaei said. “If the conditions are met, the path of diplomacy will open.”

Rezaei has said the United States accepted some of Iran’s conditions but left others unresolved or ambiguous, requiring further clarification before Tehran considers moving to the next stage.

Iran presented the seven-condition proposal during the UN General Assembly as part of a framework under which normal passage through the Strait of Hormuz could be restored. Tehran has said the waterway will not reopen to the United States and negotiations will not resume until its conditions are satisfied.

Rezaei has also described subsequent U.S. proposals as more favorable than Washington’s initial response but said Tehran remained suspicious of American intentions.

His comments come as Qatar leads a renewed mediation effort between Washington and Tehran. Qatari mediators expect responses from both sides to a new proposal within 36 hours, according to an official briefed on the discussions.

Despite the diplomatic activity, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Tuesday that Tehran and Washington remain far apart, accusing the United States of making “excessive demands.”
