Iran’s Mohsen Rezaei says Trump suffered strategic defeat in Strait of Hormuz and political setback in U.S. midterm elections
Iranian senior official and Major General Mohsen Rezaei has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of suffering a major strategic defeat in the military confrontation with Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, while portraying Republican losses in the U.S. midterm elections as a further political setback for Washington.
In remarks circulated Wednesday, November 4, by Clash Report, Rezaei, identified as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Iran had imposed heavy costs on the United States both militarily and politically.
“The great Iranian nation inflicted a major strategic defeat on Trump on the battlefield and in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a heavy political defeat in Washington,” Rezaei said.
He argued that the consequences of the war had extended beyond military operations, affecting the American public and the U.S. government.
“American citizens and the U.S. government have personally borne the enormous and heavy costs of Trump’s warmongering,” he said.
Rezaei also issued a warning to those considering further confrontation with Tehran.
“Anyone who confronts the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a heavy price for it, from the battlefield to their own doorstep,” he said.
His remarks linked Iran’s account of the military confrontation to the outcome of the November 3 U.S. elections, in which Democrats made major gains at the expense of Republicans.
Iranian officials have repeatedly characterized the conflict as a failure of Washington’s military strategy and have argued that the political consequences of the war are now being felt inside the United States.
Rezaei’s statement went further by presenting the electoral results as part of a broader strategic defeat for Trump, rather than as a separate domestic political development.
The reference to the Strait of Hormuz also underscored the importance Tehran places on the waterway in its confrontation with Washington. The strait connects the Persian Gulf to international shipping routes and is central to global energy transportation.
The Iranian official did not provide specific military figures or independent evidence to substantiate his assessment of a strategic defeat.
His comments nevertheless reflected Tehran’s increasingly confrontational messaging following the U.S. midterm elections, combining claims of military success with warnings about the consequences of further action against Iran.
