AIPAC says more than 234 pro-Israel candidates won U.S. midterm elections, pledges expanded support for both parties

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a prominent pro-Israel lobbying organization in Washington, said Wednesday, November 4, that more than 234 candidates supported by its members had won their races in the U.S. midterm elections, pledging to expand its political activities despite growing opposition to its influence.

In a statement following Tuesday’s vote, AIPAC congratulated pro-Israel Democrats and Republicans who secured election victories, saying the number of successful candidates could rise as additional races are decided.

The organization also congratulated Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries on their party’s victories, which gave Democrats control of both chambers of Congress.

AIPAC said its members intended to increase their support for candidates from both parties who favor maintaining close relations between Washington and Israel.

The organization argued that the U.S.-Israel partnership contributes to security, regional stability, democratic values and economic cooperation through trade and innovation.

The statement follows AIPAC’s October 21 announcement that it would discontinue direct candidate endorsements and contributions through its political action committee, while maintaining its broader political activities and support through individual members.

AIPAC has faced criticism from progressive Democrats and some Republicans over its campaign spending and the United States’ military and political support for Israel, particularly during the wars in Gaza and Iran.

Its affiliated super PAC, United Democracy Project, has remained an important vehicle for independent political spending in congressional elections.

AIPAC’s figure of more than 234 victories refers to candidates supported by its members, rather than a separately verified measure of the organization’s influence on election results.
