Bernie Sanders Calls for an End to Trump’s Iran War and All U.S. Funding for Israel

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders called for an end to President Donald Trump’s war with Iran and demanded that Washington cut off all funding to the Israeli government while substantially reducing American military spending.

In a video message, the independent senator from Vermont described the war with Iran as illegal and unconstitutional and warned of its financial consequences.

“Trump has dragged us into an illegal and unconstitutional war in Iran that will cost hundreds of billions of dollars,” Sanders said. “We must end this disastrous war.”

Sanders also called for an end to U.S. funding for Israel, referring to its government as “genocidal.”

“We must cut off all funding for the genocidal government in Israel. And we must substantially reduce military spending,” he said.

He argued that resources devoted to the Pentagon and foreign wars should instead be invested in public education, including higher pay for teachers.

“Instead of pouring $1.1 trillion into a bloated Pentagon and never-ending wars, a Democratic Congress must build the best public education system in the world with no teacher earning less than $60,000 a year.”
