Former Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene Says Trump Killed the MAGA Movement and Betrayed His Supporters
Former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has blamed President Donald Trump for the Republican Party’s midterm election defeat, accusing him of abandoning his America First promises and alienating voters who once formed his political base.
In an interview with Australian broadcaster ABC’s 7.30 program on November 5, Greene said the election results were a referendum on Trump himself. Asked whether the MAGA movement was finished, she replied: “I think the MAGA movement’s completely dead, and Trump himself is the one that killed it.”
Greene, previously one of Trump’s most prominent congressional allies, said she regretted her involvement in the movement. She described how supporters had believed Trump would confront entrenched political interests and “drain the swamp,” only to become disillusioned.
“He turned out to be the Trojan horse,” she said.
Turning to Vice President JD Vance, Greene accused him of failing to speak out against the war with Iran despite his political influence. She said she had been among the first Republicans in Congress to endorse Vance’s Senate campaign and had helped promote him for vice president.
“JD Vance’s silence over the past two years, especially on the issue with the war in Iran, has been deafening,” she said, adding that his decision to speak publicly now was “a little bit too late.”
Greene identified rising living costs, gasoline and diesel prices, the Iran war and the Jeffrey Epstein files as major sources of voter anger. She also accused Republicans of mistreating women and criticized Trump’s treatment of Epstein’s victims, arguing that Vance could no longer remain silent on the issue.
“The Republicans have a serious problem with women in America. And Republicans don’t treat women very well,” she said.
On Israel, Greene criticized U.S. military assistance and accused Israeli forces of killing more than 22,000 children in Gaza. She said American-supplied weapons had contributed to the deaths of children, leaving more than 70,000 orphans and thousands of children with amputated limbs.
“These aren’t terrorists. We’re talking about kids,” she said, arguing that Americans were horrified by billions of dollars in annual assistance to Israel.
Greene also called for investigations into the Epstein files after Democrats won control of Congress, saying victims deserved answers and accusing the Trump administration of obstructing the release of records.
Asked about the future of American populism, she suggested that voters on the left and right could increasingly unite around shared economic and political concerns, potentially opening space for independent and issue-based candidates outside the two major parties.
