Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, questioned President Donald Trump’s understanding of history and accused him of failing to deliver on campaign promises concerning foreign wars and the cost of living.

In an interview with CoinDesk’s Nik De, recorded on Election Day, November 3, Biden expressed concern about Trump’s judgment on international security, particularly as tensions with Iran continued.

“Trump has the nuclear codes. Trump couldn’t point out Vietnam on a map right now, I don’t think,” Biden said.

“And I really mean that. I don’t think he’s stupid, but I think he’s completely ahistorical and uninterested in anything but himself.”

Biden argued that major international challenges, including the war in Ukraine, Iran’s nuclear program and U.S.-China competition, required a president with a strong understanding of history.

He also criticized Trump’s election pledges, pointing to promises to end the war in Ukraine within a day, avoid new foreign military entanglements and reduce household expenses.

“He was going to lower the cost of gas. He was going to lower the cost of groceries. He was going to lower the cost of rent,” Biden said.

“Just go down the list. Dozens and dozens of promises were made.”

Biden described the midterm elections as a referendum on Trump, arguing that voters were judging the president against the commitments he made before returning to the White House.
