Iran and Russia Discuss Gas Pipeline to Ease Tehran’s Shortages and Supply Neighboring Countries

Eastora News · · By Eastora News Desk

Iran and Russia have discussed building gas pipelines between the two countries to address Iran’s domestic gas shortages and enable Tehran to sell Russian natural gas to neighboring markets, Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei said.

Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, raised the proposal during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on November 5.

“We discussed the construction of gas pipelines from Russia to Iran, which would allow Iran to both resolve its own gas shortages and sell Russian gas to neighboring countries,” Rezaei said.

The discussions formed part of broader talks on bilateral cooperation, regional security and arrangements for the period following the war between Iran and the United States.

Rezaei also delivered a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to Putin.

Neither side announced a construction timetable, project cost or final agreement on the proposed pipeline.
