IRGC Says Two Oil Tankers Caught Fire After Hitting Mines in Strait of Hormuz, With Unauthorized Access to Stay Closed Until Washington Accepts Seven Conditions
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said two oil tankers caught fire and were disabled after striking naval mines while attempting to use maritime corridors it described as “unauthorized” in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement reported by Tasnim News Agency. The IRGC Navy said one vessel was hit in the waterway’s eastern sector and the other was disabled within the main strait.
Iranian military authorities said both tankers had deliberately switched off their automatic identification systems (AIS) and tracking devices while attempting to transit under the direct protection of US military forces.
The IRGC said the critical energy corridor remains closed to unauthorized traffic and maritime access will not be restored until Washington accepts seven framework conditions submitted through regional mediators. It added that US military attempts to force commercial shipping through unapproved, mine-contaminated waters would continue to “result in immediate failure.”
