The Wall Street Journal says U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle pushed Balkan officials toward Greek firm Aktor as Washington sought to expand U.S. LNG sales in the region.

According to the WSJ, Aktor lobbyist Christos Marafatsos attended some of Guilfoyle’s diplomatic meetings without being identified there as the company’s representative, and was at times mistaken by foreign officials for a member of her staff.

The report also points to a 20-year, $6 billion LNG deal in Albania. Aktor estimates its broader LNG contracts could generate about €1.8 billion in operating profit before tax over 20 years. Rival LNG companies told the WSJ that Guilfoyle gave Aktor preferential attention, with one saying: “She has her favorites.”
